Fall Leaves

This little abstract Fall Leaves quilt started out as a pillow.  I laid it over a pillow form but wasn't really liking how it would look.  It's another last Fall start that's been sitting around waiting to be finished.  I finally decided to cut it down to a small quilt that measures 13.5" square.

That background turns out to be pretty busy.  I like this little quilt more in real than I do in these photos.  The background is the woven technique and the green bars and orange leaves are raw edge applique.  The larger leaf pattern was divided into 6 sections and each section is cut from a different fabric.  I really like how that leaf looks.

How come we never see those stray ravel threads until we post a photo?!

I hate that Fall is coming because Winter is never far behind.  I'm a Spring/Summer girl.  But I love the colors and fabrics and papers of Fall!

This small quilt is just beautiful. I love the green stripes and the black and white background and how you have positioned the leaves. I really like the large leaf too, the way you have made it from several fabrics and your stitching. Definitely top marks for this one.

Annie I like that woven background. I do like the leaves with the different fabrics and the stitching on them. I had to laugh because finding those stray threads on the quilts I photograph nearly always show up in my photos too! I think they wait on the sidelines and jump on the quilts at the precise moment I take the photo just to bug me, lol.

I love this! Would you consider a tutorial? I am a leaf fanatic. I just love Fall and the riot of color leaves bring to the landscape.

A lovely little quilt it is! I must learn from you that raw edges are possible to use on quilts.

I found myself staring at the first photo trying to figure the background out-then I read what you wrote-very cool. The leaf is fabulous and you stitching really makes it perfect. This is a another great piece.

I love this - so beautiful and clever. It's surprising what special items we get sometimes when we have to work our way out of something that didn't turn out the way we like.

Another great project Annie. I could see that as a pillow. And you just can't beat the rich colors that fall brings, but thank goodness for the change in seasons to give us some variety.

Super little quilt and great idea. I like how you executed the background and the leaf, lots of movement there.

Another beauty that I never would have thought of doing. Weaving fabric has always amazed me with how good it looks and different in every case...and your leaf....well, from the comments above, you KNOW what a jewel that is....6 different fabrics? Wow! So pretty!

Well we compliment each other -- I am an Autumn/Winter lady. And I must admit, I love snow!!!

It's a lovely quilt Annie, nice fabric and great leaf. I have the same problem with those stray threads, where do they come from?

Your small quilt is beautiful. I love what you did with the leave. I don't think I could have been so creative. I'm with you...I am not looking forward to the cold weather. I'm a summer kind of gal.

Gorgeous little quilt and so inspirational, makes me want to get the sewing machine out! I'm not looking forward to the cold weather here this winter but a project like this might take some of the sting out of it.

Annie I am like you with Spring/Summer being my favorite...however this year I am embracing the coming of Autumn (Winter TBD). Your pillow turned quilt is lovely and I adore how you used so many fabrics for the main leaf. I also reviewed your last post I missed and quite like the little bits and pieces that include Mr. Crow. Blissful Stitching Dear...
