A Bird & Blooms
It looked much better in my mind than it does in reality.
I'm going to re-visit this idea in the future to try to get closer to what I visualise in the ole noggin.
I printed off some fabric pieces and pulled some selvages.
One of the fabrics is a purchased print, the others are all printed with my printer.
I wanted a black and white background with subtle colors smattered throughout. I think some of the printed fabrics are a bit too dark for my thread painted swirl flowers. I thought my selvages would work well for the smattering of color part and for the most part I am happy with that bit...with some improvement next time.
I sewed strips of the background fabrics and added selvages here and there and did fusible raw edge applique for my bird.
Then some thread painting for my swirl flowers.
This piece was to go into a frame that Dad made a while back, so I just stay-stitched the edges.
Oh for goodness sake, don't I ever dust my walking foot?!
That's a bit better. I'm always telling myself I'll clean everything after this project. Then I just start sending the new project through....I forget.
Anyway, for now and until I get a chance to play with this thought again, it is what it is.
Get ta stitchin'!

I love it and have been looking for an idea to put around the edges of the Vignette in Stitches quilt (as I seem to be horribly slow at the embroidery portion!!). I really want to try out that fabric printing as I love those newspapers and old style writing which was so cute against the very modern fabric used for your bird - very clever!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, but I really had to look for the flowers until I read your blog. You could make wilder flowers too, you know.....but maybe not. You surely don't want to "take away" from that cute birdy!
ReplyDeleteYour little birdie composition is precious and makes me smile. Blissful...
ReplyDeleteAnnie, LOVE the birdie! love the whole thing. So pretty!!
ReplyDeleteШикарная птичка! Очень понравилась! И цветы! Здорово!

ReplyDeleteIt looks great. I'd love to see what is in your head....it must be fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI love the little bird! I really like the unique background, too. I think it is great that you are printing fabric, that is on my must do list. Keep creating and you will find new ways to make less noticeable features stand out.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I like the idea of printing the fabric with text. There is a lot to explore there.
ReplyDeleteDid you use a twin needle on your swirl flowers or are you that incredibly steady with your thread painting? Wow! They are amazing.
Incredible fabrics....I love how you put the selvages and the created fabric together. The little bird couldn't possibly be any cuter, well, at least I don't think so. Makes me wonder what is in your head!
ReplyDeleteSeriously, I have had that happen before...you design something in your head and then can't get quite what you want, on the fabric! LOL
I don't know what you originally envisioned, but this is lovely!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think this is pretty fabulous! That little bird is adorable.
