The simple how-to of my
Modern Plaid
Pillow #6
I used a charm pack and cut the 5" squares into 2-1/2" squares, arranged them and stitched them all together.
This was my simple original plan for this pillow, but it turned out so blah looking that I had to come up with a plan B. I cut some brighter strips of red, white and blue. These strips are 3/4".
Next cut each row of blocks in half (1" from the sewn seam) and sew a 3/4" strip between the blocks. I did this one row at a time.
I liked how it was progressing.
I continued and did the same pattern in the other direction.
Now it had the visual impact I was hoping for!
So simple, isn't it! I'm so anxious to do this modern plaid in some brightly colored fabrics.
Have fun,
Annie
Thanks for sharing the directions! I think it might be fun to do this to whole cloth using different widths of fabric as well.
ReplyDeleteSo, that is how it was done! I just love how it turned out! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat visual impact with such a simple yet ingenious fix! Thanks so much for sharing the how-to with us! It's definitely something I plan to do.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the "how I did it", Annie! You definitely nailed the visual impact component for this project. And the piping is perfect (I am piping-obsessive...or maybe that is "addicted").
ReplyDeleteVery cool! I love how easy it was but looks so complicated :)
ReplyDeleteHoly cow, talk about seams! Surely, I would do something wrong and get it all wonky. You, on the other hand, did a marvelous job of keeping everything straight and wonderful! Thanks for telling us the secret! How fun this looks! I might have to try it myself sometime.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, I think I have to try this! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLOL I agree with Carol....I'm afraid I would mess up with all those lil seams....can I cheat and use a stabilizer maybe? Heehee!
ReplyDeleteWow, Annie, it may be simple, but it is brilliant! You really hit this one out of the park!
Your pillow Is stunning! You make it seem so easy to do, but I think only you could do it soooo well! Charming and so very creative!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tutorial. I was vaguely peering at the cushion in the previous post wondering how it was done. Looking forward to seeing it in bright fabrics.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you shared this. I have a quilt top that I made a while back and . . . well, let's just say it doesn't have the visual impact I was hoping for. This post gives me the creative kick in the rear that I needed to pull it back out and see what I can do to liven it up. :)
ReplyDeleteI love your modern pillow. The technique does look simple and I have a few old charm packs that might find themselves cut up and resewen. The only trouble is -- the colors are not right for my house, but what the hey! It will be fun to make one anyway, right?
ReplyDeleteI just found your blog and have enjoyed browsing around. You are a talented lady. Hope you are not getting tired of making postcards, because I'll be waiting and watching for your next offering. :)
I totally agree. The finished design was so much better than the one without the additional strips.
ReplyDeleteLove this idea. Definitely going to try this. That pillow looks so nice.
ReplyDeleteYep. Plan A was good...but Plan B - outstanding!
ReplyDeleteI love that pillow! I would probably mess up all those lines and they'd be totally crooked.:O)
ReplyDeleteLove the pillow you've made . Thank you for sharing the way you proceeded.
