Envelope Art

Decorated Envelopes
are just the best mail one can receive.

Well, that's as far as I'm concerned it is.  My postcard mail art has led me to wanting to play with arty names and addresses.  After posting a couple of first envelopes on flickr...

... Carol found and led me to the blog of Jean Wilson, pushing the envelopes  Jean's envelope art is phenomenal and the ultimate inspiration.  Jean has the talent to design an envelope based on the design of the postage stamp.  I couldn't even begin to do that!  I just add the postage stamp as added envelope decoration.

It was Jean's blog where I was shocked to learn that you could place a postage stamp almost anywhere on the envelope!  Can you believe it?  I always thought they HAD to be in the upper right corner.  Carol's envelope was my very first moving of the postage!  FUN FUN FUN!  And scary too.  There was a brief visual of the post office slapping a big ole red inked stamp "undeliverable as stamped!"

And I dared to do it again!

It's kind of a bummer blocking out names and addresses to protect the innocent.  That takes away from the effect as a whole, but, it can't be helped.

AND THEN!
SO AWESOME!
Carol oh, sweet Carol, sent ME an arty envelope!

And that's how I know this is the best mail to receive!
Thanks so much, Carol!  That was an AWESOME Mail Day!

Wishing everyone a Good Mail Day!
Annie

  1. these are NEAT, don't you have to pay extra postage on these? I know they won't go thru the regular scanner machine right? but it might cheer up the postal worker that has to handle it anyways...

  2. These are wonderful. What a great idea. Postcards scared me, but I'd like to try an envelope. I love Zentangle and think I'll try some of that on an envelope. You are so encouraging. I love what Carol sent you. Is your name drawn on or is it in fabric? Thanks for the link.

  4. They are all so wonderful Annie. Too bad that mailing snail mail style isn't done very often in this electronic social media world. Anyone would love to receive such beautiful works of art.

  5. Well you used to be able to buy pretty stationery but now with e-mail - it is hard to find. Doesn't the post office have to hand stamp them if the stamps are in an odd location. That may have been your intent anyway. Great job as usual!

  9. I'm lovin' this new art of yours! It seems as though you get a whole new style from one envelope to the next. How fun! (I'd probably just do the same one over and over using the new address.....duh!!) I think I might have to design a new one for you........but what oh what to put inside???????
