A new envelope has traveled through our kindly postal system, and safely arrived in the UK.
I very much can see my own progress with my mail art and am surprised and thrilled that it is going in a direction that I'm very much enjoying the process of.
When I have success with these envelopes where I swipe ink onto the envelope with a plastic card, it is pure luck. l love the effect of this inking technique, but I have thrown away more than I save. Throwing the envelopes away doesn't make me a very happy mail artists. I think I'm going to have to leave this technique behind and work on other ways to get more successes than failures. Always a good plan...right?

This is a lovely painted, textured and patterned card, with such subtle colours, who wouldn't love to get this through the letterbox.
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about these hit or miss techniques, when they work it is amazing, but sometimes they don't. I actually think the good outweighs the bad and it's worth continuing to get some wonderful surprising results.
Perhaps your failures are only in your eyes? Often we are too critical of our own work. Post some flubs and let us be the judge……..I bet some of them are beauties too!

ReplyDeleteI am always fascinated by how the same products in different peoples hands can work out so wonderfully diverse. You really do the best mail art I have seen and I can't believe for one minute you have ever made anything fit for the bin!

wonderful piece of art. is the part that you are having the issue with the first step. if you have a problem then all it is is a matter of the cost of an envelope, not lots of time and energy. seems a small price to pay if even every 10th one works and you end up with art like this.

ReplyDeleteDon't throw them out! Try cutting them up for other projects or die cut flowers out of them. You are too hard on yourself, your art work is fantastic! Love the envelope art especially.

Your work is beautiful and definitely evolving. I think you should put those envelopes that are not what you want to see today aside. You can look at them with fresh eyes at a later date. I expect that you will eventually find the just the right fit.
