I've seen lots of snowball quilts. But when I saw one with green and white corners, I immediately saw those corners in my mind as black and white. And I had to get started making that quilt.
My granddaughter has an important birthday this year and I thought with the black and white it might make into a fun teenage quilt. (I think I was right about that).
I didn't like the fact that her favorite color is blue because my least favorite color is blue. When I found the Horizon Layer Cake bundle, I thought, that's blue enough for her and I think I could work with that myself. Then the bundles arrived in the mail, and I thought what old lady prints they are. But I still liked the colors. So the quilt began. And now it's finished and I'm quite happy with the way it turned out.
I kind of think the fun-ness of the black and white corners and check make the old-lady-ness of the prints disappear. This finished quilt measures 60" x 80.5"

Great quilt, Annie. You're quite right about the black and white giving the other fabrics a huge jump, they don't look old-fashioned at all, far from it.

What a great snowball quilt Annie! I guess that's the only snowball you'll be seeing in California, lol!!! I do love blue and aqua and the black and white on this quilt is just wonderful. I know this quilt will be so loved. Thanks for sharing it.

ReplyDeleteI don't like blue much either unless it's the really light shade,prefer the green shades in crafting.

Snowball, huh? I knew you'd eventually miss good old Wisconsin in winter!! And I was right! Seriously though, the quilt is lovely and if you hadn't shown it close up, I never would have know there were old lady prints in it……..e-gads, it looks so bright and fun from a distance. Your granddaughter will love it!

ReplyDeleteLove your snowball quilt and the "old lady" prints don't look that way to me. Too bad you didn't bring the quilt up here...you could have actually taken the pictures IN snow. We've had just over 36" at my house so far this winter. LOVE IT! Don't miss Sac at all.

ReplyDeleteAnnie, this certainly doesn't look like an old lady quilt to me. I think the black and white brings it into the 21st century, especially the black and white striped binding it gives the quilt an "Annie" touch.

ReplyDeleteNow you know if you made her a quilt from brown paper bags she would love it. It is not old lady. I am pretty sure she did not want My Little Pony! Adding the black added the touch of modern you were looking for. I love the black and white checked fabric. Truly a gift to treasure!

ReplyDeleteLove your quilt and i bet your granddaughter did too. It certainly is not an old lady quilt. Blue is hard for me to work with too. I think your black and white border gives it pizazz. I like the size of the snowballs too.
