Paper Piecing Fun

I couldn’t seem to get enough of paper piecing with my Chillingsworth quilts.  So I kept on sewing neutral strips.

I have a love for grunge.  But sometimes I don’t like the design of the grunge.  Like on this table top.

I set out to cover it with the paper pieced strips and text sashing.

I love all those precise seams!

I don’t save my empty thread spools these days.

SO much is plastic in this modern life.

(That is my portable design wall behind this little table)

This mat is very busy for this use and doesn’t make me love it.  At least not for this purpose.  But it will do until I decide on something else.

July’s calendar journal also is not a favorite to look at.  But there’s always next month for aesthetic improvement.

  1. I love the mat! Yes, those very neat and precise seams are a reward in themselves. Think of all of those lovely wooden spools which we all took for granted and now appreciate. I always enjoy your calendars!

  2. What a great idea to use up the neutral paper pieced border from Chillingsworth! I really like your mat with that text fabric! ❤️ I also have a collection of wooden spools! It is sad that all we get now is plastic. Your calendar shows a lot more quilting getting done in July! Love to read what you have been up to! 😉

  3. Maybe if you dip it in a light dye of tea, that might soften the look a bit. Just a thought. Hope all is well with you and you are steering clear of the fires down in your state.

  4. I love your calendar, always. And your little quilt is not bad at all. But I agree that even if you use the most beautiful fabrics, the result isn't always the best. Sometimes the ugliest fabric gives the best result. Have a nice weekend!

  7. I rather like your no colour mat with the odd word or number popping up. Quilted mats are so useful. I tried to see if there was a regularity in the piecing but the fabric patterns hide it if there is.
I like your calendar page too, a single phrase enough to mark the day. The 14th and 15th are perfect in their succinctness.

  8. I'm happy to see your calendar page. It always looks good to me. You seem t have been doing a lot of quilting. I like all the text fabric you have; maybe you aren't in love with the little mat but it is interesting. Your jar of wooden thread is nice. I have a small Mason jar of spools and I love the surprisingly vibrant colors of the thread.
