It has been a week of patriotic sewing.
The theme this week at Sunday Postcard Art is using the first letter of your name.
Annie - A
Since I was already working on a patriotic piece, America came to mind immediately. I’ve stitched a postcard of our American symbol, our Flag.
This small 12” X 12” craft storage box contains odd sewn pieces or blocks. It is all that remains of unfinished items. I’m keeping these pieces in mind, waiting for inspiration to sew them into something...other than potholders.
These three paper pieced blocks were in that box. I think they were originally intended to be potholders. But now, years later, I’ve changed my mind.
I decided that they would become a table runner. I have had zero patriotic home decor items and it is time that I did.

I went through my stash of blue fabrics hoping for a piece that would blend well enough to put these blocks together. I got lucky.
Then I went through my stash of red fabrics hoping for a binding piece. I got lucky again. I really love how the staggered stars in the fabric show up at odd intervals when used for a binding.
I normally mail the postcards I make, but I’ll keep this one for decor.

Wow! Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you used those blocks in the table runner--and the little stars that show up in the binding! The postcard is simply the perfect touch for your patriotic vignette! Can't wait to see what comes up from that magic storage box :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to use Fabric on the postcard.
ReplyDeletebeautiful table runner also.
thanks for playinig.
Wow, beautiful
ReplyDeleteHow great is this, so clever.x
ReplyDeletewish I could sew.....the text background on my card is from Carabelle (SA60385)
ReplyDeleteVery cute and a great decoration.
ReplyDeleteAnnie, these patriotic pieces are winners! Love the little postcard art of the American flag and I really love that table runner! I’m really drawn to the wonky stripes! Love when you become lucky with finding the right fabric in your stash! Use it up! Yay!
ReplyDeleteThose are so great Annie. You now will have some decorations for Memorial day in May, flag day in June, Independence day in July, etc.... Really is the perfect things to create as so many months to use them or even keep up all year.
ReplyDeleteFantastic patriotic artwork. I love it.
ReplyDeleteAnnie, you hit the jackpot with your fabric stash and having the vision to put those 3 orphan blocks together! The bit of wonkiness in the stripes sings to me as we all have a layer of wonky hidden somewhere, don't we? The runner and matching postcard is perfect for the patriotic holidays ahead of us. Great work!
ReplyDeleteWhat great inspiration. I need to gather up my little ophan blocks and start seeing what I can do with them. Beautiful work as always Annie!
ReplyDeleteTwo lovely finishes - the table runner is a great make. xx
ReplyDeleteGreat as usual. I have a friend, I think you met her once on a bus trip, anyway she is so into RWB decor. Think I will try and make one for her.
ReplyDeletei am so impressed! this is really well done! what a great way to tie together 2 themes you were working on. xo
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, although I haven't made any, I do love a table runner. I really liked the previous one you made and I certainly like this one too. The three blocks are different but totally belong to each other and yes, the binding with the occasional star is so good. You are very good with bindings, sometimes it can take ages (with me) to choose something that fits. Nice presentation with the baubles too. Oh and the postcard is very smart.
ReplyDeleteNice stitched card - what a fun interpretation of the theme!
ReplyDeleteYour post card and table runner are just right patriotic art pieces. I like the way the stars show up randomly in the binding too. The way you have staged the table runner with the shiny red, white and blue Christmas ornaments is perfection! I am also happy that you are keeping your postcard.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great use of orphan blocks, and it looks so delightful in your pictures.
ReplyDeleteWow - you are very talented with paper and fabric. I love both your creations and how you staged them in your pictures as well. Beautiful work!
