The theme this month at Art Journal Journey is - Inspired By
I am inspired to make art by practically everything I see on many social media platforms. Recently on Pinterest, I was inspired by a dragonfly that had a clock hand for the body.
I won’t even bother describing the troubles I had. BUT, I have to say I’ve had the most frustrating best time getting an art journal page finished.
I see loads of painted backgrounds that I love but I find it difficult to get an acceptable result. There is so much acrylic paint, and watercolor paint on this page! By the time I get an acceptable result, I cannot seem to remember to stamp my images BEFORE using modeling paste!
I trashed one page, I wasn’t going to trash ANOTHER! I stamped the words on a separate piece of paper, tore it around the edges and glued it on. Not exactly the desired look, but that leaves room for improvement, right?
I’ve had some silver metal words in my stash forever. I darkened the metal with Timber Brown StazOn ink.
The butterfly is a die cut from the first ruined page. Until I ruined the first page attempt, I really liked it and managed to salvage most of the page to use in other ways.
I love the clock hand and a brad idea for the butterfly body. I’m pleased enough with the page not to rip it from the journal. Always an accomplishment for me still.
I love all the texture you've created here, from the butterfly to the modeling paste, and the glued on text of two different mediums!
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to receive my pirate ship, Annie! Thanks so much--I love it and have it on display!
Such purply goodness on this page, Annie! You've given me a new level to achieve...to get frustrated enough to enjoy it and call it good! We learn best in those times as it breaks our barriers. Your beautiful butterfly with its clock hand shows us how precious time is, even when we're frustrated. Love the quote too!
ReplyDeleteAnnie, this is so good! I love the clock hand and brad for the butterfly body! I ❤️ all the purple and the textures! I think the torn page with the stitching is perfect and the words describe your life! Love it! So glad you found joy in the process of creating this page!
ReplyDeleteI love your date stamp - makes me want to go check out a library book. Sweet butterfly!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous journal page, the butterfly is so clever! Thanks so much for linking to AJJ! Hugs Valerie
ReplyDeleteI love butterflies, and I love your page. Can't imagine how you do it, even when you describe it. Think I will need a class sometime.
ReplyDeleteI think your page is gorgeous Annie. Sometimes I go through layers and layers to get a page the way I want it. I can't tell on your page that you used that much paint of various colors and kinds. It looks beautiful to me. And I very much like using the clock hand in the butterfly. It gives some great details. You created a great page for this month's challenge at Art Journal JOurney. Thanks for sharing with us. Hope all is well with you. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteThe art is fantastic!!! So romantic this style!!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous butterfly - great page! xx
ReplyDeleteThis is all so complex that I had to read and look several times. Many bloggers would only show the finished piece (I do too sometimes) and we would look and think "that's lovely" but to read all the trauma and fun of making is so much more interesting to me. I love to see your art materials (frayed burlap!) and your actual very new looking clean brushes. Silver metal turned into copper and a dragonfly with a clock hand! Not quite most of all but along with the excellent photographs I enjoyed all your words and felt the fun of creating. And your final piece is really beautiful and if there was another word for awesome I would use it.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely STUNNING, Annie. I love the texture, the colors, and the vibe. I have some of those metal words, too. I've only used one. I think you've inspired me to dig them out and use them in my art. I love how you darkened the metal.
ReplyDeleteAs I was reading your frustration, I can say I've had that happen to me more than once. However, my art NEVER looks as good as this turned out. You have a genuine gift and it is truly one that you express on the page. Thank you SO much for sharing this with us at Art Journal Journey, dear.
Annie....this is just a great page...colors, textures, everything! I love the quote and it looks great glued on like you did...like it was planned that way!
ReplyDelete(I am still having problems with my comments on blogs not sending an email....sorry)
I love that clock hand - what a fabulous idea! Wonderful background too. So glad you kept at this because the end result is really well done. I love the words too - so true!
ReplyDeleteI love your page Annie, and that's a wonderful quote!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend,
Alison xx
I love the thought in this about creativity is a way of life! Your work is beautiful as always.
ReplyDeleteLove this page! You amaze me,
ReplyDeleteI love this - great texture - that quote is brilliant! Hugs, Chrisx
ReplyDeleteAnnie this is fabulous, to be inspired by what we see then to make something our own is a wonderful way to express and create. The mistakes we make along the way are just extra playtime.. Your journal page is superb and the Butterfly has been given her own identify with that clever clock hand, I love it.
