I am experiencing art techniques that I haven’t ever tried before.
First I painted the blank page with white Gesso. I’m not sure why. It’s just what I’ve seen other artists do. Good reason, eh?
Then I stamped with Archival black ink with a large rubber stamp. Next I scraped white modeling paste through a couple of stencils. When the modeling paste dried, I used watercolors very wet and pigment applied to the top of the page. I spritzed the paint with water to help the color drip down the page. Then some black splatters with black acrylic paint watered down some.
I turned my journal upside down and did the same from the bottom. Let me tell you...that is fun as well as rather unpredictable.
It all looks like a mess and almost ugly and I love it!
I used a Tim Holtz Small Talk sticker for the phrase and a label maker for the word experience.
This is a technique that I need to practice and fine tune.
Today I wanted to make a tag.
I’m linking my tag to Tag Tuesday where the theme this fortnight is FACES.
I’ve joined a free week long daily video demonstration at Willa Workshops called Fodder Challenge. This particular day was Workbench Remnants by DeeDee Catron. She made the chevron fodder. I had the same stamp and wanted to make one too. Then I needed something to put it on. A tag was born.
I love these scribbly, sketchy line drawn ladies by Clearly Impressed, The Unruly Girls Club. I’ve had these stamps forever and they’ve hardly been stamped on anything. But they are going to make appearances on tags at least. Because they’re fun.
Girls just wanna have fun...and I am!
I love your tag! Maybe it is the green color, but that other piece does not look like your normal style.
ReplyDeleteLooks like lot of fun. And I don't have a clue what you are talking about, those things are unknown for me. I've made a quiet book the last weeks, so I didn't try any art quilt.
ReplyDeleteWow Annie. Your experimentation created some fantastic results. I love the idea of going upside for some of your page. It's really interesting what you can discover from playing. That's what I find so much fun about art. You just don't know what you'll get. Your tag us pretty amazing too. This was a fun post for sure. Enjoy the end of your week. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteAnnie, these are 2 wonderful pieces of art! I love your 1st piece and playtime with new techniques. and of course the face tag is my favorite! totally elegant. thanks for linking to tag Tuesday and thanks for visiting my blog! xo
ReplyDeleteWow, wow, wow, WOW!!!!!!! Your journal page is fabulous, love it! Great techniques, so inspiring! And your face tags are fabulous. Love that chevron and the scribbly faces. Glad you had such a fun playtime. And thanks for linking to Tag Tuesday, much appreciated! Hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteA fabulous page Annie! I love the colours and those drips! And your tag is simply stunning!
ReplyDeleteAlison xx
Page and tag turned out great! I have visions of trying to techniques you used. My quilting keeps me from giving journaling an honest attempt. For now, I satisfy myself with collecting a small stash of supplies for future projects!
ReplyDeleteI super duper love this journal page!!!! You rock at all these new techniques you've been trying ♡♡♡ great tag also!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I want to thank you for the collage fodder workshop. I had not heard about it and went to their site and immediately signed up.
ReplyDeleteSecond, I have seen people drip paint down a page, but I didn't care for it. However, I LOVED how yours turned out. Even before you turned the page upside down, it was well done. I love that stencil you used, too. and I love the monochromatic look to the page.
I'm not big on making tags, but I like how you have displayed yours. Really fabulous.
Great page Annie - I like working onto a gessoed page, gives a great effect with the paint. I like rubbing an oil pastel over the gesso too - it picks up on the ridges then shrugs off the paint into the troughs. Nice tags too - those ladies are lovely. xx
ReplyDeleteMassive grunge alert!!!
ReplyDeleteA big move away from your neat (and also fabulous) fabric postcards!!!
Versatility is king here and I love it.
Drips normally go their own way but I like how you have corralled yours up and down and elsewhere. The colour combination is fascinating, the big word "ART" and the text sampling, and the fascinating palette all combine to give a spectacular piece of Art with a capital "A".
Then we have the black and white tag which I also love. These scribbly faces are fun. I'm admiring both the tag and the attached ribbon. "Be original" - that's you.
Experimenting seems to good for you! Trying new things and combining old things is working. You are on a creative roll, Annie!
ReplyDeleteAnnie, those girl stamps are so cool! I love line drawings! Someday I would love to try some art with modeling paste. It looks so cool!
ReplyDeleteAlways so uplifting to a creatives mind to have time to experiment, it opens up an array of thoughts and findings for future makes. I love how the colours fall around the stencilled areas. Stunning journal page and I adore that wee tag of yours with the scribbly face.
ReplyDeleteCreative wishes for the weekend Tracey x
