Cute Ghosts Tag

On the challenge blog, Tag Tuesday , the challenge for this fortnight is to use the color combination of orange and blue.  I like this color combo.  I didn’t plan to go in the direction of Halloween, but that’s the direction it went in anyway.

I did the smooshing technique where you smear some ink from your ink pad on a non-stick surface, spritz it with water then drag or tap the tag into the inks.  Drying between drags and taps so that the colors layer.  I used these ink pad colors.  I then stamped the web with Pumice Stone Oxide.

I stamped the tree limb with Walnut Stain Oxide going over that color with Black Soot Oxide for a deep brown color result.

I then stamped stars with Chipped Sapphire Oxide as well as inking along the outside edges of the tag.

The word letters are die cut from blue card stock.

When the two tag sides were finished I glued them together back to back.  I like a sturdy tag finish.

I inked a length of white seam binding in Chipped Sapphire Oxide ink on half the length and Orange Marmalade Oxide ink on the other half.

I used posca pens to make white dots throughout the background.

This tag was specifically created to use a couple of 3D ghost stickers that have been in my stash for a several years.  As well as some bat stickers and of course Washi Tape.

I put a ghost on each side of the tag.

Because my tag went in the direction of Halloween, I kind of struggled with using blue ink instead of a brown or black.  But I like that this challenge took me a bit away from the standard.  I’m happy to have these guys out of storage and ready for October.

  1. I've been thinking fall and Halloween art also. Loving your tags Annie. The background is perfect and those ghosts are really fun. Thanks for the inspiration, and motivation to dig my bin of Halloween stamps out of storage. Happy end of the week. Hugs-Erika

  3. What fun tag(s)! The you have given the ghosts personalities. I love ALL the details in the background. The inking along the edges stands out to me as being like the binding on a quilt, it is just perfect.

  4. Oh Annie, I just LOVE your double-sided tag! The ghosts are so fun. Love the one holding the cat. All the little touches from the spider web, the branches, the dots, the words, the bats, the colors all work in such harmony together. Nicely done!

  6. Wild Honey! Rusty Hinge! Could we ever make these colours from watercolours? You just smoosh them on a non-stick surface? Going to try it right after this with the Distress Inks I have. I'm swooning over the colours - Black Soot Oxide!
The dead tree branch is indeed spooky and I love the eeks.
Even the seam binding gets drenched in colour.
    Chipped sapphire stars.
And your tag reaches perfection - but wait! there's more!
Two crazy ghosts come along to sit on each side and be as spooky as they can.
Is that a cat the last one has? The Ghost's Cat - a great title for a book.

  8. I freaking love these tags!! I think I'm definitely going to copy your background some time! I love the way those three colors melted so nicely together ❤ 😍 and those puffy ghost are so freaking cute!!! I can't wait on more Halloween stuff to come out everywhere. I just got the Halloween stamps I Designed for mom in the mail yesterday! These are the 1st ones I've done independently. We need to make samples and figure out pricing so we don't end up losing a lot of money with this adventure 🀣 but never know until we try! I also can't wait until Tim's stamps next Saturday! Halloween ones are always my favorites! (I will of course watch the live today too, but I don't do a lot of the more intricate layered dies despite that I love them, because I have no patience with all the tiny pieces to color and glue!...I've found this out the hard way since I keep happening to buy them thinking they won't be too much... then when I do it, they take me forever! (I, the recent flowers, which I love but I'm so slow!, the fireplace...,the tiny Halloween bottles, and I'm sure there are more..lol... mom loves those things, I don't have the patience and lose my mojo for a project usually by the time I finish one of those pieces! I may change my mind again though, you never know!)
