It’s the little things that make life big.
The theme this month at Art Journal Journey is TYPE.
The 3D embossing folder I used to emboss the cardstock is type letters from the good ole days.
A 3D embossing folder works very similar to regular folders but it makes a deeper impression. Very cool.
(See Tera, I paid attention when you explained.)
I then began to add color to the paper. First by inking one side of the inside of the folder with Distress Ink Tumbled Glass. I spritzed the paper lightly with water then inserted it into the folder and ran it through the BigShot. The ink transferred to the paper. I repeated that process to get more ink on the paper. With a blending tool I rubbed on Distress Antique Linen over the letters and some on the background. I also blended some Distress Oxide Cracked Pistachio on the background. I highlighted the letters again with Distress Ink black soot.
I then used an Stabillo All pencil and a water brush and my finger to add the blacker spots and make drips and darken the outside edges. When I was ready to add this to a page in my journal, I thought I wanted a checkered border around the page. That looked waaayy too busy. So I painted over the checks with heavy body white acrylic paint a couple of coats or so.
I used Washi tapes on the outside of the book page. That added to making the checkered board more subtle in the background.
Then I glued the embossed paper to the page.
And added the Tim Holtz paper doll girls, shading around them with a graphite pencil.
At the top of the page I added the typed small talk sticker sentiment.
Definitely got my grunge on for this page.

I used my embossing folder and have made a page too. (Just haven't posted it yet). I guess great minds do think alike. I am loving your page. The filmstrip tape or acetate on the right is perfect, and it was a good idea to give your type some color because it really pops off the page. Thanks for sharing Annie. Hope your week is going well. Hugs-Erika
ReplyDeleteWonderful page, Annie. I haven't used my embossing folders for ages, thanks for the reminder. And many thanks for joining in Neet's challenge at AJJ. Have a great week, hugs, Valerie
ReplyDeleteI have been enjoying your journal pages and as always your calendar page, even though I have not managed to get a comment in. I really love it all.
ReplyDeleteI love all the steps you list about how you work through your art process. I know very little about paper art/crafting and I am intrigued at all the supplies and tools you mention. LOL I had to google BigShot to see what it was. Once again thank you for sharing all of it.
A fabulous page, especially the background looks wonderful. Love the vintage girls too.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the rest of the week 🐝🌺
Love the EF you used - very cool and your shading on it came out very well (vintage grunge). The words and the people are perfect. Little thing do make life big. Great AJ page, Annie!
ReplyDeleteOh Annie, I love what you did with that 3D Texture Fades folder. I won't go into what I have been doing with mine but yours is so much nicer. That is fabulous and what a great page it makes. I love how you used the washi and the Tim Holtz dolls with it to make this page along with the words. A real winner!
ReplyDeleteHugs and Thanks for joining me again at AJJ.
Neet xx
A fabulous page, I love everything about it Annie!
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit baffled by Bigshot and I'll have to ask Mr, Google about it but there is no doubt that you are making it do great things. How clever to make these multi-coloured raised letters including with some modern black soot and finishing with a great unusual border too.
ReplyDeleteWow Annie how cleverly thought out this is. Love all the different elements you worked with here. Looks aaaaamazing!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!!!! I love love love the color(s) of the typeface part! I think I need to get one of those stabilo pencils. I always love the results from them. Also, was totally laughing this morning since I don't remember explaining the 3d embossing folders. Lol 😆 glad you got to use your new paper dolls too! They are perfect here♡
ReplyDeleteNow this is a new technique for me to try! I love the way yours turned out and I’m anxious to give it a go. Thanks for the inspiration!!
ReplyDeleteI apologize for taking so long to visit. You have created an extraordinary journal page with the help of your embossing folder and Big Shot. I haven't used mine, yet, but I don't have an alphabet or an embossing folder like that. Aren't those TH paper dolls simply perfect for these types of pages? I've used more this month than in past months, that's for sure. I love how you framed the alphas using washi tape, too. This is a perfect addition for Neet's theme at Art Journal Journey, dear Annie. I adore it!
ReplyDeleteLove this page. You are awesome! Wish I could accomplish this in fabric!
ReplyDeleteI love your page!
ReplyDeleteLove the embossing and the colors in the background! Another great page, Annie!
ReplyDeleteWonderful page! It's impressive how you designed it.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy weekend,hugs Elke
