Purple/Blue Quilt

This current quilt challenge was to use the center sashing fabric that never seems to fit into any other quilt or project.  It's a very pale lavender with tiny silver sparkles.

I cut  squares from my purple and blue stash drawers.  Stitched them with the sashing in a staggered design.

The sashing piece dictated that the quilt size would be a baby quilt.  However, there are no babies in my life.  So I proceeded to expand it.

I wanted that striped border sash to be the binding, but it ended up where it is.  Now I only had 11" left.  Not enough to use for binding this 61" X 58" quilt.  I could not find the purple colorway for that fabric line anywhere.

It sat around since mid February waiting for me to find a binding fabric.  I can be so stubborn.  I was so dead set with the wave stripe.  I knew I would not be satisfied with any other fabric.

It finally dawned on me in the wee hours of the morning to figure out how many strips I needed to go around the quilt, cut them at whatever width needed and then add strips of the backing fabric to the stripe for the binding!

And the quilt got finished.  I think the dual fabric binding made for a fun binding look on the quilt back.  I will definitely consider that binding style on future quilts and projects.

Summer Haze Quilt

My worse quilting decisions are in this Summer Haze Quilt.  LOL

I found these three 1-yard prints as a bundle and I really liked them.  But I could never find a way to use them (with other prints).  I also did not want to add more prints from the collection.  So I challenged myself to make a quilt with just these 3 yards.  I had to add a neutral blender to accomplish making a quilt with these prints.

If you look closely, you might see the design.  There just is not enough contrast to define the design and it is lost.

I didn't want to put any more of my time into this quilt, so I took it to a local shop for quilting.  It is quilted by Mickey at Sew Many Pieces quilt shop.  The quilting design is dragonflies.  I love the quilting.

I also love the backing fabric!  It blends better (than the photo shows)with the fabrics on the front.  I use it backing side up.

There you have it... how NOT to design a quilt!  LOL

They can't all be wins, I guess.  I don't totally hate this quilt, but I also don't totally love it either.  It's useable and does its job.
