Me vs. Paints and a Flower

Me vs. Paints is typically a battle and the trash bin wins the prize of a quite unfortunate painting.  This time is different.  I think this painted watercolor flower is not completely unfortunate.

I think me and my inexpensive paints did a fairly decent job of it.
I struggle with several painting issues.  The most debilitating of which is not being able to visualize the finish during the process.  So I don’t know when to quit fixing it.  Or even whether or not it needs fixing.  Another is not waiting for layers to dry.  For once I did use a heat tool at times to get it dry faster.  But I kept painting on it and making it worse.  It was destined for the trash bin.
Once I finally drew the scribbles, I could see it so much better.  But that just started a whole new fix-it process.  I thought one of us has to give in and I didn’t want it to be me.  I think I ended up with a fairly decently painted single flower for Sheila’s (Orange Esmeralda) A Single Flower theme at Art Journal Journey .

I haven’t actually pasted it into my journal yet as I’m undecided as to what I might want to do, if anything, with the page it will get pasted to.

Update:  I have finished the page.

This theme runs for the entire month of March.  All mediums of art are welcome to join in.  It’s such a great theme to welcome the arrival of Spring.

This is one perfect minimalist flower, beautifully drawn and painted.
To paint a minimalist flower, minimalist yes but with a lot of interest, like this takes a lot of skill.
I love the splashy petals and leaf and the unique blending of the yellow and green colours.
And the black splashes - they look very difficult and brave to do but add the perfect arty finishing touch.
Thanks, Annie, for a superb entry for the theme at AJJ.
I love it.

I think this flower is fabulous! Just enough details. Don't do anything else to it! It is really perfect. Thanks for joining us at Art Journal Journey too. I love seeing this. Hugs-Erika

Well I think your flower turned out really well. I made a few cards recently in a similar style which turned out OK but I never get the effect I am really looking for - or trying to copy! xx

Your flower is so eye-catching! I especially love the black splattered dots and that black border makes everything simple and complex at the same time. You've done it again, Annie!

I love your flower. It's perfect. I understand your problem of knowing when to stop. Wish I could capture your flower in fabric! It's stunning!

It came out well and your framing up of it is super too - just enough interest and elegance. I love the mix of colors you used on this! Inspiring!

Your statement that this flower is not completely unforunate is way off base. I see nothing even a little bit unfortunate about it. It is a winner!

I don't know why you would say the flower was destined for the trash. I guess I've never seen what you put in the trash but your artsy flair is always enough for me. Love this flower. Looks like it belongs on a hallmark card.

I agree with others, Annie. This would NEVER have made it to the trash in MY craft room. It is genius, well conceived, and absolutely PERFECT for Sheila's theme at Art Journal Journey. It's a beautiful flower. Watercolors are tricky and seem to have a mind of their own, but I think you corralled them beautifully. Thank you for joining us this month, dear.

This is absolutely beautiful - not just for the fact that this yellow flower makes me smile but for the 'scribbles' and the arty black splashes! A fix may be what you call it - I say it's a jolly lovely flower Thanks for joining us at AJJ. Chrisxx

I love this theme of a single flower and your different mediums. The glimpses into your processes are interesting and inspiring. I probably would have tried to doodle first, then paint but then I am not knowledgeable in water color techniques. So pretty Annie!

That flower is perfect - in fact I am sure I have seen some rubber stamps very similar to that. Love the yellow - so bright and summery. You nailed it!
Hugs, Neet xx
