Salt and Sand Postcards

Welcome to day 3 of the Salt and Sand blog hop.
Many thanks to Carol of Just Let Me Quilt for her hard work organizing this fun blog hop.

When I decided to join in the fun of this blog hop, I wasn’t ready to make another quilt of any size, nor any other sizable project, so what to sew???

Yes, POSTCARDS!
And I will mail them out to 5 of my followers.

When I think of salt and sand, I think of the ocean/sea and the beach.

And the ever present seagulls.
I always complain that I cannot draw.  I did draw the seagull, but practically used up an entire eraser trying to make him look somewhat like a seagull.

Next came to mind a lighthouse.  I couldn’t make the light light up but the lighthouse building glows-in-the-dark.

From there my mind traveled out to sea for a fish or a boat.  What came to mind were those thieving salty sailors of the high seas...Pirates.

The skull and cross bones on the pirate hat glow-in-the-dark.

Can’t have pirates on the high seas without a ship.
This ship has already been in a battle...with me. The eyelets and I did not see eye to eye.  It’s a battle ship...it should show some battle scars...right?

What’s a pirate or a pirate ship without a pirate parrot.  He keeps his share of the booty close.  Dare not to take his treasure!

What a fun time I had with this challenge theme!

If you’d like to receive one of these postcards in your mail, mention it in your comment.  Tell me which postcard you’d like to receive and your name will go in the drawing for that card.  If you want to get in more than one postcard drawing just mention which ones.  I will contact winners for mailing info.

Check out my fellow bloggers that are sharing their Salt and Sand projects today.

Oh, what sweet little works of art, Annie! All the teeny fabric pieces and tiny details (including those vicious eyelets) make each card so very special! Seeing them make me long for the sandy beach and sunny days spent on a boat, minus the pirates. I'd love to go in the draw for one...any of them would be wonderful!

I love them all, but I think that bird is my favorite! I am very much a homebody, but Covid has me fantasizing about the beach. Or the mountains. Or (if I’m really being honest here) anywhere but home, even the cheap motels we always stayed at when I was a kid. I am nostalgic for a cooler full of milk, cold drinks, sandwich meat, and a loaf of bread. :)

They are brilliant Annie. xx

These are adorable! I like how each one is different yet part of the theme. Love them all!

Well these are all enchanting. My two favourites are the seagull, and the parrot. Land and sea, and both from the air. I do wish I could send you a picture of our dear neighbours, the seagulls on our beach. The are good neighbours.

Your postcards are wonderful. I love all of them. Making some post cards is another project on my to do list! Thanks for sharing!

Awesome postcards!! I particularly like the seagull (I think you did a great job on it) and the lighthouse and would like to be in on those drawings. We see gulls around here (from a nearby lake) on occasion. :) Thanks for sharing!

Your postcards are stunning! They would make a wonderful collection displayed together on a wall.

Fabulous! I love the little touches you have added to each postcard. And I am especially fond of striped binding. If I had to choose one,it would be the pirate ship with the eyelet portholes. Challenge well met!

These postcards are so fabulous, so arty and so well-made.
First the seagull. Definitely 5 out of 5 for this seagull. In fact I'll give it a 6 or even a 10. He looks just like a seagull looks and I've looked at lots. You've blown out of the water any idea in anyone's head (including yours) that you cannot draw. I love the regular waves and the mysterious seagully numbers and your trademark striped border and I especially like the black and white stripes.
Next I love the rocky rock the lighthouse is sitting on and I'm afraid you are mistaken, the lighthouse light is shining.
It's a perfect red and white designer lighthouse against the blue, blue sky.

Going backwards -
Oh my goodness - the parrot!!!!!! Best Parrot Ever.
"Ahoy matey" - hahahahahaha!
His hat, his beak, his pearls, his key on the key chain and his parroty parrotness - it is a sublime parrot. Not to mention the anchor. All on a postcard size.
Impossibly good.
I love this parrot so much.

The pirate ship is beautifully neat and I hope the pirates look after it. I see someone fired a round at one of the portholes. It is sailing happily under its splendid pirate flag over a calm curvy sea and looks gorgeous and friendly to everyone - maybe.
The pale blue framing stitching is marvellous done.
Finally -
I don't think I have ever seen a sweeter skull and crossbones.
Anyone would love to have that on their hat.
It's a great lettery backgound too and a fine anchor.

I already have many of your postcards and cannot really decently request one but I will only say that whoever gets the parrot should be very, very happy.

Love your postcards especially the seagull. I grew up and still live where seagulls are plentiful. Your postcards are wonderful.

Annie those postcards are just fabulous! You draw pretty darn good to me!!! It's been many years since I was at the sea. Growing up in S. California I spent a lot of time at the various beaches around, but I have lived in the high desert for even longer now, so while I would love to have all those postcards, I think they would be best sent to someone who really enjoys going to the beach or boating.

I love all of your postcards. The seagull one reminds me of my son's first experience with thieving seagulls. He held his sandwich over his head to keep it away from the birds at his feet so an enterprising bird on a post swooped down and grabbed it from his hand. Memories of travel to Acadia national park.
The pirate ones remind me of the campground in Myrtle Beach. All your cards remind me of vacations in the past and, hopefully, in the not too distant future.

These are all awesome. The background fabric you used on the seagull and pirate ship is perfect to represent ocean waves. Although I love them all, my 3 favorites are the seagull, lighthouse, and parrot. Thank you for sharing your talents as always.

I just love your postcards! So original! I don't think I've ever seen a blog hop project like them. I would love to have any one of your choice as I really can't pick a favorite. They are all so cute.

Your drawing of the seagull was well worth the eraser!! I think you must be an artist even if you think not. Every one of the postcards is fabulous. I loved them all but especially the seagull and the lighthouse.

Oh my goodness! They are all awesome! I like the light house the best, though! You do such great work! Oh, wait, it's fun, not work, right? Heehee!

The postcards are a great idea for this hop...love them all... so well done.
I would love to be in the draw for the seagull (for Australia) or the Lighthouse (Saint John Canada- hubbys home)...but understand IF the postage is too much should my name be drawn out.
This is a great blog hop...xox

Wow. I feel like although you didn't make a sizeable project, you did enough work for one :). What fun postcards, and so fun to see different techniques and styles across them. I love all your choices for binding fabric. I'd love to be in the draw for the seagull or the lighthouse. Thanks for sharing your great work.

In early February 2014 you mailed a postcard to me entitled "Bird Bits" and wrote a nice note. My husband was fighting cancer, a battle that he lost in March 2015. I look at that card everyday. I would love to put your seagull next to it. Your work is so nice.

All really cute postcards. I really love the pirate hat with the cross bones.

I think it is because I don't have a blog - I just follow others.

If you see this, Sofran, and would like, send me an email with your contact info and I will then add you to the drawing.

That certainly looks like a seagull to me! I am amazed at the creativity of every one of your cards With all the different elements in each one. You pack a lot into one small piece of art.

Oh, I forgot! Thanks for the chance to have one of these for my own. It was really hard to choose, but I have a friend who loves lighthouses, so I'd like to be in that drawing and be able to give it to her. Not that I wouldn't love any of them for myself, you understand, but she is such a fan!

I have to say I think the parrot card is my favorite, but then, each and every one of them is incredible.

Beautiful work, Annie. I love them all but the lighthouse and seagull are my favourites. I wish I could draw a seagull that well. It would have taken me several erasers to achieve such a likeness. Thanks for sharing.
