March Alpha Table Scraps Challenge

The Alpha Table Scraps Challenge letters for March are
B and/or U
This challenge is hosted by

Well, the letter B was an easy one for my postcards.

Bird

Bee
(the bee is from the pattern but the flower is from my imagination)

Bunny

U took a bit of thought to avoid an umbrella.

This is Uncle Floyd and he is an Uber driver.

As always, I’ve reduced the Bloomin’ Minds patterns to fit a postcard size (except for the bee, he happened to be the perfect size right off the pattern).

The alpha challenge for February is the letter M and/or V. This challenge is hosted by

Ive made only one postcard for the challenge this month.

M for Man
But don’t you know, his name is Victor.

The Bloomin’ Minds pattern company calls him Slim.

As usual, I have reduced the pattern to fit a postcard.

Alpha Table Scraps Challenge

I’ve got a plan for 2023 Table Scraps Challenge hosted by

This year is an alpha challenge with letters of the alphabet.
For January the letter choices are C, R and/or J.

I’m taking a little break from non-stop quilting and plan to focus on sending out fun postcard mail.  I’ve hit the ground running for January.  I made cards relating to all three letters.
Scraps are all that’s needed for these little mail greetings and wishes.

For letter C I have a cat and a chicken.  (Along with Christmas)
For letter R I have a reindeer, a rabbit and relatives.

For J I have Joy.

(I’m hoping that when December rolls around again, I’ll have all my Christmas postcards sewn and ready to write and mail.)

Now to give credit to the designers of these fun images…

Cat

Chicken

Reindeer

Rabbit

Relatives

Joy

I’ve reduced all the patterns to fit a 4” X 6” postcard.

I love the always fun and adorable Bloomin’ Minds pattern designs and I’ve sewn several things over the years from the Art To Heart, I Believe book.

Second Scrap Bag Quilt

I enjoyed making the first scrap bag quilt, so at guild the next month I brought home a second bag of scraps to have another go at scrappy piecing.

Although I’m not as thrilled with this one, I still enjoyed making it as a charity quilt.  This quilt turned out larger than the first one measuring 51” X 70”

I did purchase the outside border fabric and the backing fabric. Two great sale finds.

I have never made quilts from scraps before. But I always have a stuffed bin of scraps. These two scrappy quilts got my fingers itching to see what I could do with my own bin of scraps…stay tuned to see how that goes!

Scrap Bag Challenge Quilt

I am new to quilt guilding.  And I am thoroughly enjoying it.  Mostly because my guild does not make any demands...everything is voluntary.  At our last meeting we drew numbers for a small bag of scraps from donated fabric.  Our challenge was to make a quilt of minimum size (36” X 48”) but no maximum size.  We could add fabric of our own.  And there are a variety of prizes to be had!

I was between projects when we got these scraps, so I got started on a quilt.

I only added the cream fabric that I had left over from a quilt back.  I love playing with designs with half square triangles.

Quite the array of prints and colors so not matchy matchy.  But with an anchoring background fabric, they kind of work don’t they???  Definitely scrappy.

A few adjustments and I went with it.  One week later......

I think that blue stripe binding brings everything together.
The quilt is a little bit larger than the minimum.  39” X 52”

I won the nice prize for first done!  YAY!
I’m donating this quilt for charity through the guild.

Touring Red Bird

My tinyest scrap play yet has taken the form of a wild red bird postcard who has flown off to Scotland to be friends with a tame pheasant and keep company with Maureen.

Oh, the sites he will see on his journey.

I really do try not to bind every postcard with this black and white stripe.  But more times than not it comes to be the best choice in the end.  And that doesn't bother me in the least...obviously.

And here is one last bottle wrap...I promise.
I like these B&J Malt Coolers and I needed a custom wrap for them. I didn't think my plan would work out so I kept putting it off.

But now it was time to clean up my play space because someone is going to see it pretty soon. But I wanted this wrap done OR over with before cleaning up. I didn't want to be thinking about it anymore.

It pretty much worked like a dream. But I don't want to make any more. So only my Marg cooler will have a wrap around it.

I really tried not to add a swirl. But I just couldn't resist.

CHEERS!
